Information for the 2014 CSA Season

1/1/2014

We are making some changes in the 2014 CSA Season.  Please read below:

Shorter Season  -  After two (or is it three?) years of extending the season into December, we’ve decided to shorten the season by a month and end at the end of November.  We’ve found that the harvest windows are too irregular and the vegetable production too inconsistent to justify keeping it on our calendar.

New Summer Season - The heart of the garden season runs from June through September.  These are also the months when there is the most available in the gardens.  Starting in 2014, the summer season will run from June through September and the cost will be $500 for families and $250 for singles  for those paid in full by June 1.

Full Season Memberships - It really helps us to have people sign up for the full CSA season!  In 2014, the cost is going to be $800 for couples/families and $400 for singles.   The full season will include regular harvest times in the months of May through November, but it will also include invitations to harvest on the backside of the calendar December through April.  We anticipate having many hoophouse crops available during the “off” months of the CSA.

Monthly Sign Up - Monthly memberships will also be available in 2014.  The price is $100 for couples/families and $50 for singles in May, October and November and $150 for couples/families and $75 for singles during the summer season (June, July, August and September).

Discounted Memberships - We will continue to offer discounted memberships for students, single parents and others who need them.  Please contact John if you would like more information or would like to contribute towards making a discounted membership available for someone else.

Other News:
  • I have spoken with Will and it looks like we will have him for another season.  He will join us after graduating in mid-May.  We really look forward to having him helping out again in 2014!
  • We will be hosting our third intensive gardening workshop this spring (and they just keep getting better!).  If you or anyone you know would like to learn how to garden, I highly recommend it.  I'll have more detailed information in early January.  Please check the website under "Garden Workshops" for more information.
  • We've committed to improving our communications this off-season.  Under the tutelage of Heather and Nick Swope (new parents to Mary Swope), I am learning to make changes to the website and have even begun initial work on a Facebook page for Barefoot Gardens.  Stay tuned!
