_Thank you for your interest in Barefoot Gardens.  If you are interested in membership, please click on “membership” for more information.  We are still accepting memberships for 2011.

There are several things  that have us excited for the 2011 season.

Hoophouse Expansion: By the time the season begins we plan to have another, larger, and fully operating hoop house. This will mean earlier and larger harvests for many of our summer favorites as well as cold weather protection for our favorite greens and cool season crops.  As a result of the added protected space, we will be offering monthly shares through December in 2011.

Tomatoes: The added hoop house space will also allow us to dedicate one house almost exclusively to your favorite varieties.  In 2011, there will be seven rows of tomatoes (as opposed to four last year) and more of the varieties that were popular last year.  For example, one row will be devoted exclusively to CSA favorite Sungolds.  Overall, we are currently planning to plant 39 varieties of tomatoes in the hoop house and expect to more than double the overall indoor production from 2010.

Garden Expansion: Another change is that we will be expanding the fenced area of the garden to include the area behind the house (between the house and the barns).  This will give us more room to add flowers, herbs and berries in an area protected from the ravaging herds of deer.

Additionally, we are continuing to expand out perennial vegetables and fruits.  In addition to orders for more apple and pear trees, we will also be planting more rasperries and asparagus.  We are also doubling the number of blueberries.  Please be patient!   It takes three or more years to bring these perennials into production.

Labeling: We will be making an extra effort to more clearly label the garden crops this year so that you know what you are picking and can let us know which varieties are your favorites.

T-Shirts: We are working on having Barefoot Gardens T-shirts this year.  We will have sizes available for both children and adults.  We’ll share details as they develop.

      2011 Membership Signup Information

We are planning for an extended growing season this year.  We will begin the season in early May (as usual) and continue it through December this year (8 months total).  Working with the hoop house over the last nine months, we are confident that we can continue harvesting a number of crops right up to the New Year.  These crops include:  lettuces, spinach, carrots, radishes, Japanese turnips, mizuna, scallions, arugula, cilantro, Brussel Sprouts, Swiss Chard and kale among others.  In fact, we are still harvesting some of these crops (especially carrots, spinach and chard) right now.  See the membership information form (sidebar) for more details about the extended season.

New Memberships – We are still accepting new memberships.  Please be sure to read the membership information carefully and then please fill out a membership agreement form and liability waiver and send it in with your initial payment.
